George Hottel was baptized in the village of Alscheim in the Rhineland-Pfalz near the towns of Oppenheim and Worms on April 12, 1722. In June of 1732 the family sailed out of Rotterdam on the ship Pennsylvania via Plymouth, England for America.They arrived at Philadelphia on September 11, 1732 and lived in Bucks County, PA for a time. George probably married in Bucks County before moving to Dunmore County, Virginia. We find his name on court records January 20, 1742 as a signer of a road petition. George built his own house near Mount Olive and his sister Anna Barbara and her husband George Keller built right next door. His father Johannes Hottel built a home across the road. Children were born: John in 1746; Henry in 1748; Elizabeth in 1750; Jacob in 1752; David in 1753; George in 1754; Dorothy in 1755; Daniel in 1756; and Anna in 1757. We find a list of those who voted for George Washington in which the name George Hottel appears. The list is in the hand-writing of George Washington. In 1759 and 1764 George Huddle's name appears on the Rent Rolls of Frederick County, VA. In 1772 George Huddell and George Keller sold land the land of their father after he died to Matthias Wilken. George Hottel's name appears in the Rent Rolls of 1774, 1775 and 1776. During the Revolutionary War George contributed whiskey, beef and rye to the Federal troops. He later made Public Claim for reimbursement. In March of 1782 when George Hottel died and his will was probated, he owned a total of 2,369 acres of land in Shenandoah County and Hampshire County, VA.
